So in the spirit of sharing what's newsworthy I have landed in Paris for the second summer in a row because I'm secretly a European in an american's body. This go around I'm traveling with my regular travel buddy (of Miami, Vegas, and LA fame lol) crystal.
We spent two full days in Paris before coming to Cannes which I will cover separately. The good thing about it not being my first trip to Paris is that I I've managed to get the tourist attractions out of the way (I'm not big on tourist attractions to begin with so that wasn't too hard on the first trip). Crystal has also been to Paris previously so this time around we were able to just lounge.
The first day was spent walking down the champs élysées, eating and window shopping. I had a ginormous pizza at pizza vesuvio, along with a tomato/mozzarella salad and sorbet for dessert (it was a pre fixe menu, I'm not usually that greedy...well, maybe sometimes, lol).
We walked to my favorite store in all of Paris - Fauchon. They have lots of sweet treats including biscuits (of the cookie variety) which I love along with chocolates and teas and coffees and pastries...well you get the drift. I bought a bunch of stuff let's leave it at that. After fauchon we checked out the Chanel store and some of the shops on rue faubourg st honore which led back to our hotel. Dinner was at this restaurant a few blocks down the street from our hotel called La Maree. It had great reviews on yelp. The wait was long because we didn't have a reservation but the food was excellent. I had this salmon that was cooked perfectly and their bread was so soft and hot (don't give me the side eye if you see me with a big belly).
Day 2 involved a tiny bit of sightseeing. During my first trip to Paris I made it to the centre Pompidou (the modern art museum) on the last day only to find it closed. I was so sad because modern art is my favorite art. I've visited the triennale in Milan, the tate modern in London, and of course the MoMa in NYC a million times. So this time we hopped on the open tour bus where you can hop on and off all day, and we went to the pompidou. It was open this time and well worth the trip. They had an exhibit on Gerard richter which I enjoyed along with their permanent exhibitions.
Afterward we headed back to the champs élysées area and ended up at Sir Winston, a bar we found on yelp with good recommendations. They had cozy couches and good drinks although the service was a bit lacking. It was all good until crystal spotted a mouse scurrying across the floor. Unmm yeah, that was our clue to pay our bill and get the heck out of dodge. We walked to the trocadero area where we ended up having dinner at Le Coq, a very swanky, modern restaurant right in the trocadero circle. The food and service was good (I'll post some of my food pics soon). On the walk back we were craving dessert so we made our way back down the champs élysées and the surrounding area looking for a place with dessert that was still open (it was around midnight). Finally we stumbled upon Haagen Dazs! The place was packed and its not a small spot (3 levels). Ahh, It was worth the effort though. I got the Peche passion - a dessert with 2 scoops of white peach ice cream, strawberry syrup, and fresh strawberries and raspberries. It was amazing and a perfect end to the night.
More to come on our last day in Paris before heading to Cannes as well as the rest of our travels. For now, Au revoir!
