Workaholic

Ahhh...so things have been insanely busy lately which is why I've been a little MIA. I met with one of my mentors the other day who told me that the summertime is usually a lull at work, then things start picking up again around August....yeah, well I have yet to see the lull but I'm still hoping. Yesterday was probably my biggest day on the job since I started working here. I had two milestone meetings for my business. One was a strategy meeting which I lead where I recap the previous couple of months and set the strategy for next year. It requires a LOT of prep work. The other meeting was a design meeting to review product for an upcoming season, which I also play a big role in. As if that wasn't enough, I captain a company-wide initiative for my division, and I had to present my division strategy at my Divisional's (essentially, my bosses' boss) and my Director's staff meetings - two very different audiences. So essentially, I had four major meetings in one day. I was at the office at 7:30, didn't have a chance to eat breakfast and spent about 30 minutes total at my desk all day. Which meant I didn't actually start DOING work until 5pm. Which meant that I didn't leave work until 10pm last night. Yeah, I know...not exactly what I call fun. But on a positive note, the meetings all went very well. Today was equally busy b/c all of the things I had been putting off over the last week were staring me in the face very impatiently. I did leave at a decent hour though (if you call 7:30 decent - it could have been worse).
So, my coworker (another buyer in my buyership whose workspace happens to be right across from mine) has been sick for the past week which included a bad fever. You can imagine what everyone thought it was. And instead of staying home, this crazy girl decides to come into work so she can infect all of us! And of course, I ran into her yesterday on the elevator, after she insisted on coming in for a few hours to work until her doctor's appointment. Being in an enclosed elevator with someone who might possibly have the swine flu is not a good look! I was trying not to be rude and hold my breath, lol. But seriously, I told her about ten times as politely as I could, to take her behind home. Of course she didn't listen. She said that when she went to the doctor they were treating her like she was an alien. They had on face masks and gloves. As she was telling me this, all I could think was "and I was in an enclosed elevator with you"....if I turn up sick, y'all know who to hunt down! She returned to work today even though the doctors didn't know what was wrong with her. She insisted they told her it couldn't be swine flu b/c her symptoms are different. I'm not too convinced. But I have been eyeing the bottle of vitamins on my desk pretty hard - we might have to start bonding again.
Outside of work, I've been holding true to my plans to try to get out more especially since the weather is warming up. I went to my sorority chapter meeting last Friday, which wasn't very eventful, but I was determined to go since I missed the last two meetings (last month I was in Boston, and the month before...well, I had a bad week and just didn't have it in me to be social). This month's meeting involved elections for officers...like I said, nothing too eventful. I did however, have a "missing car keys" episode when I got home from work, which resulted in me being a good hour or so late for the meeting. Fortunately, I found the keys - although not after I wasted a good 20 minutes walking back to work and searching for them needlessly (they were in my apartment the entire time, buried in a handbag). I didn't do much else the rest of the weekend besides run around trying to get things for this party. Earlier last week, I went to a jewelry making class at The Studio at Rush Creek, which is out in Maple Grove. My friend Erin has got me into taking classes there. The class we went to last week was for stamped bangles - I made a really cute silver bangle with the words "Faith Hope and Love" stamped on it. I initally wanted to put the whole scripture on there (you know, with the "but the greatest of these is love"...but I took the lazy route out and avoided an additional 2 hours in the studio...as it was, the class lasted 3 hours). It turned out really cute. I'm starting to rack a nice little handmade jewelry collection. I gave one of my pieces to a good friend of mine for her birthday and she really liked it (it was a funky little design I made in my fine silver fusing class about a month or so ago).
This weekend I'm going to some more jewelry events. One is a jewelry show that our jewelry instructor for the bangle class will be participating in - it's being held at the Walker Art Museum on Saturday. The other is another jewelry class that Erin has talked me into (not that it required a whole lot of persuasion...she mentioned jewelry and I was in).
